The Mini-Max is the middle model in the range, offering the best features of both the Cargo and Mini models. Its shorter wheelbase provides more bike-like handling, resulting in a tighter turning radius and improved maneuverability. Although the rear rack does not have horns like the Cargo, it remains equipped with extender-bar compatibility and can still carry impressive loads!
The fact that the front wheel is positioned more centrally on the rear rack positively influences steering and handling, although stability under heavy loads is slightly lower than on the Cargo. The Mini-Max is aimed at riders who appreciate more stylish, agile cornering and a more compact parking space, and who do not necessarily need to regularly utilize the maximum load capacity.
The Mini-Max V3 is designed for 55 mm (2.15") wide tires at the front and rear. The benefits of larger tires include the ability to run at lower air pressures, which significantly cushions the ride between rider and ground. This enhances comfort and control on all terrains—uneven surfaces, gravel, or cobblestones. While the semi-slick profile of these tires slightly increases rolling resistance, it mainly boosts grip and stability and reduces the risk of punctures.
The frame and fork system have also been updated to accommodate 15 x 100 mm front and 12 x 142 mm rear axles. Although these axle standards were first used in downhill mountain bikes in the late 1990s, most modern disc-brake bikes now adopt them. For our cargo bikes, this makes sense: the axle runs through a closed hole in the frame and fork, then through the hub and is screwed directly into the dropout on the other side. This system significantly enhances stiffness and strength under braking and load conditions, while also reducing the risk of incorrect assembly and brake disc rubbing.
This Mini-Max is equipped with the SRAM Apex groupset. Apex is SRAM’s dedicated gravel groupset, a 1×11 system with wide gear range that is very user-friendly. It features a long derailleur capable of handling cassettes up to 42 teeth, and the X-HORIZON design reduces shifting forces and increases comfort. Additionally, it includes SRAM CAGE LOCK, making tire changes and maintenance much easier.
